The Advantages of CATCH and LIFT

CATCH and LIFT rescue system combines two stages of rescue in one:

       1. It connects to the person gone overboard (heaving line)

       2. The person is lifted back on board (automatically without muscle effort)

Fast rescue: MOB can be back in less than 3 minutes

Easy to use even in difficult weather conditions and under stress

Muscular strength is not required by the person on the boat or person in the water8

Rescue maneuvres are done from the cockpit - guaranteeing self-protection for the person/ people on-board

MOB keeps a safe distance from the boat - no risk of running the person over or hurting them

Full control at all times: the rescue procedure can be started and stopped, accelerated and slowed down

Ready to use - no modifications to the boat or to the sails, no time wasted

Boat remains under control during rescue procedure and is fully maneuverable

 Maneuvering requires no specific qualifications

The lifesaving equipment is brought to the person involved in the accident, not vice versa

The rescue of unconscious people is possible

It can be operated by a single person

Especially suitable in poor visibility conditions, in the event of severe wind and heavy waves

Rescue training leads to more confident performance, increasing chances of success

Technical Data

  • Works independently - without connection to the electric, winches, main or jib halyard, etc.
  • Several hooking points for the pulley (boom, shrouds)
  • Two fastening options for the person in the water: a snap hook and a rescue sling
  • Extremely hassle-free
  • The case is waterproof and robust
  • Very compact & lightweight (4.9 kg) / (10.8 lbs)
  • Suitable for airline travel (charter crews)
  • Maintenance services from the manufacturer
  • A whistle is attached to the rescue sling

Our promise  CATCH and LIFT offers a safe and simplified way to get a person overboard back on deck in the event of an emergency.

System Components - WHAT YOU GET

A - The PULLEY

The pulley is marked with a number 1 and is attached to the sailboat with a snap hook. Possible hooking points for this are on the port or starboard shrouds or at the end of the boom (topping lift). The pulley pivots, so possible rope twists automatically become untwisted during the rescue process. Furthermore, the pulley is fitted with a special rope cleat; this rope cleat secures the returned rope and, thus, also the "person overboard" immediately upon their return on board.

B - The RESCUE SLING

The rescue harness has a red tether marked with a number 2. This rescue harness has several functions:

  • Heaving line: approx. 50 m (164 ft) of floating rope stowed in two pockets.
  • Brake function: when the floating rope is unstrapped, the two pockets fill with water. The rescue sling can be steered to the person in the water with pinpoint accuracy independently of wind conditions.
  • The rescue sling is used if the person in the water has no life jacket or the life jacket is not equipped with a strong hook/attachment system, to which a snap hook can be hooked.
  • A snap hook: if the life jacket is equipped with a hook/attachment system, the red snap hook should be hooked into it. It can be hooked in easily even with cold, stiff fingers. This snap hook is identical to the one on the pulley.

C - The SEA ANCHOR

The sea anchor has a red hand strap marked with the number 3. To ensure that the sea anchor only unfolds in water (and not on board ship by strong winds), it is packed in a special protective cover which is environmentally friendly and completely dissolves in water within seconds. The sea anchor opens very quickly, automatically, and reliably as soon as it is thrown in the water.

D  - The FLOATING ROPE

The yellow floating rope floats in water and is clearly visible on the water surface. It has a total length of approx. 60 m (196 ft). Measured from the pulley, about 50 m (164 ft) of floating rope are available for the surrounding (CATCHING) of the person overboard. The remaining 10 m (32 ft) of floating rope stretch from the pulley to the sea anchor and ensure that the sea anchor can be thrown into the water.

E  - The CASE

The case is an important part of CATCH and LIFT. It is closed with two red seals and safely protects all system parts inside from humidity, dirt, UV radiation, and impact. This is the only way to ensure the reliability of CATCH and LIFT. Thanks to the built-in air pressure compensation valve, this case is safe for air travel. The case is air, dust, and waterproof according to IP67 standards. It complies with all the basic requirements of STANAG 4280 - DEF STAN 81-41 standards.

F - The  C&L WIRE CLAMP

The C&L wire clamp is installed on the shrouds and makes up the readily-available hooking point for the pulley - regardless of the position of the sails. The shrouds are perfectly suitable for the LIFT of the person overboard due to their stability and position. The C&L wire clamp is optional and available for all shroud diameters from 6 mm to 20 mm.
